About Our School
Banogue National School has five teachers on staff, three mainstream teachers and two Special Educational Needs teachers. There is also a full time Special Needs Assistant and a part-time Special Needs Assistant employed at the school.
There are many advantages to children being taught in a mixed class setting in smaller class sizes:
The individual needs of each pupil are assessed and nurtured within small class sizes. In an era of overcrowded classrooms this is an invaluable asset and of enormous benefit to the child.
Teachers are very focused on each child achieving their individual potential
The presence of a number of class levels in the one room ensures that higher ability children can be challenged at a higher level; while children also benefit from consolidation of concepts from a lower-class level.
Small classes result in minimum disciplinary problems and maximises the time allocated to each child.
Small class sizes combined with the skills of the staff has enabled the school to become very active in early intervention so that children who may present with specific learning needs are referred, in the first instance, by the class teacher to the in-school learning support staff.
Two staff members are specialised Special Educational Needs Teachers who provide comprehensive Learning Support in Banogue.
Very successful programmes have been established in this area which helps ensure that each child reaches their full potential in every area of school life.

There is facilitation of referrals to specialists if required e.g. Speech & Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists etc.
School management recognises the constant monetary pressure on those with young families and at all times does its best to ensure that parents are asked to contribute the minimum amount necessary to provide the best possible service to the families in our school. A nominal sum is requested to help cover the costs of photocopying, art & crafts, literacy and numeracy programmes.
We have high expectations of behaviour, which we encourage through gradual self-discipline. Our code of behaviour is based on respect and positive reinforcement. There are rewards and sanctions
